The number one reason to go full time in graduate school is to get your program finished more quickly. Many people manage to balance both full-time school and full-time jobs with relative ease, particularly if they’re taking Online Classes.
Different than Undergrad
In graduate school, full time is only 9 hours in comparison to the 12 hours required for an undergraduate degree. Most classes will be three hour classes, so at 9 hours that means you’re only taking three classes a semester. If you can fit one of those in six Saturdays or online, then you will only have to go to class a couple of nights a week.
Finish Sooner
By going to graduate school full time, you will be able to finish in half the time. The sooner you finish, the sooner you can get that big raise and be out of school, at least for another few years. Even balancing 12 hours a semester with a full time job is possible, especially if you’re single and don’t have kids to worry about. Though there will be times when you’re burned out from the load, finishing earlier often outweighs the frustration of these times.
Save Money
By going full-time in graduate school, you will be a better candidate for a graduate assistantship or scholarship. Most of the time these are held for full-time students only, so going full time may prove beneficial if it allows you to save several thousand dollars a semester.
Make More Money
After getting your graduate degree, you will substantially increase your earning power. Although it might seem smart to work at a low paying job and go only part-time, you will probably lose money this way through student loan interest rates and loss of after school years when you could make a significantly larger amount of money.
A Note on Online Degrees
If you’re seeking a degree from an online school, you have even more reason to go full-time. Number one, there’s a good chance your company may be paying for you to go to school. Number two, online classes only last six weeks at a time, so you can easily finish more hours in one semester with less stress in an online degree program. There’s just something more exciting and less stressful about ending a class and starting a new one every six weeks. Most students of online degree programs experience less burnout since they don’t have to deal with the same teachers and groups for sixteen weeks at a time. What a relief it would be to have fun in a class for a few weeks, start a new experience, and still finish school early by going full-time.
Going Full Time in Graduate School: The Benefits
Here’s the rundown of the four major benefits of going full time in graduate school. Consider them before making your choice. Going full time is much easier than it may seem at first, and from experience, I know it’s not only possible but practical as well.
Requires Fewer Hours
Finish Sooner
Save Money
Increase Salary

Most graduate school programs give you the option of just going part-time. In graduate school, full time is 9 hours, so part-time is anything under that. If you are getting a Masters degree, the program will be about 36 hours, including any internships or a thesis. There are lots of good reasons to only go part time in graduate school. Let’s consider a few.
Keep Working
If you only go part time to graduate school, then you can keep working full time at your normal job. This is essential if your company is paying for you to go back to school. You will also be able to make more money at your normal job than you could in a graduate assistantship. Many individuals in high-pressure jobs or in jobs that require constant travel choose to go to school only part-time, though the advent of online education has made full-time education much easier.
Go Slow
If you haven’t been to school in many years, it’s smart to start slow. You want to make sure that you can handle the classes and deal with the new pressures of school. Going part-time gives you the space to adjust to your new schedule and the new restraints on your time. If you can handle more hours, you can always add more the next semester; if you can’t, then you haven’t lost anything.
Spend More Time with Family
You don’t want school to take away a lot of time from your family, particularly if you have children. Taking nine hours of classes a semester would be taking away two or three nights a week, time that you don’t want to miss. If you just go part-time, your course of study may take a little longer but you won’t miss as many of those special moments.
No Rush
If your current job is paying for your school or you’re just getting a degree to enhance your knowledge, then there’s really no rush to get finished. You can take your time if you want. If that’s the case, you might as well go part-time in graduate school and just enjoy the experience. Just remember that in order to get a degree, you usually have to finish the program within a certain amount of time – make sure you finish under the time limit.
Lots of Reasons
Everyone who only goes part-time in graduate school has a good reason for it. If your reason is strong enough that it outweighs having to be in school a little longer, then you should definitely take it slow and just go part-time to graduate school. Relax, take it easy, and enjoy the experience at your own pace.
Keep Working
Take Your Time
Spend Extra Time with Family

It used to be that education by way of online learning or what is called distance learning or distance education was implemented as a supplement to the brick-and-mortar classroom (or conference room) teaching and learning methods and materials. But technology as it is progressive and multi-beneficial–online high school and online college courses have become sometimes viable sources of learning, without the student having to ever step foot in a classroom.
Contemporary learners taking online college courses can benefit in a number of ways that they otherwise could not, having no way to get to school, for example, or having no desire to attend an institution of higher learning. They might have children, a home, and one or more jobs that keep them from physically enrolling in or attending classes at a campus that might be too far away.
These individuals can make use of online college courses that feature lectures, video, audio, email, IMs, instant messages, bulletin boards and chat rooms, and online study and research sources that all comprise the online college courses rather than serve as supplements to them.
For the home-schooled, the advanced placement high school student, for instance, who is now into levels that reach online college courses levels, the benefits of choice, segregation, or integration are available to those who prefer a particular curriculum that is religiously oriented or carefully monitored.
And for anyone, online college courses are equal opportunity for anyone of any race, creed, color, religion, location, learning ability or disability, or mindset can find the materials, sources, and lessons he or she needs or wants, many times accredited and transferable.
In the same respect, before applying, signing up, and paying, the learner who seeks legitimate online college courses should do a little background checking to protect him or herself from the beguiling and conniving that does sometimes happen. Some offering online college courses and other online courses are not qualified to do so. Some are not accredited. That is, if you are looking to use the online learning experience as credited coursework (to transfer, to get a job, to get a degree), be sure that the online college is one which meets the standards set by the states, provinces, or countries accreditation body, agency, or board. In the U.S., for instance, the Department of Education (the DOE) oversees and regulates American universities, though each state is responsible for its own higher learning authorization standards.
This can be an arduous task by itself: unscrupulous and greedy money mongers can be “licensed” to run a business (in this case, the business of running a degree mill, a fake college)–because every state has different ways of regulating standards, and because con artists and scammers claiming to be legitimate e-universities will link their pages to the real sites of DOE or of the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), so when you are looking for an online degree you might be tricked.
You might read the website’s claim of being accredited or will infer from the official links or the way the text is worded, in lies, or implications, that the institution is accredited when it is not will pay unreasonably high fees, will sign the necessary and official-looking documents, but then will be required to do very little work and will graduate online with a bogus degree.
So if you are looking into online college courses, the best way to go is through a legitimate college. And even then, if you are unsure, look for the distance learning college accreditation info. Or ask directly about it. When the said distance learning institution names an accreditation agency whether it is DOE or CHEA in the U.S., The British Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education in England, a named Private Colleges Accreditation Board in Canada, or any other Authoritative body’s contact that named agency and check to see that the college is in fact accredited, NOT just licensed to do business.

College degree master online is a need of the day, with the country focusing on generating more and more high-value jobs in service, consulting, and intellectual-property, while willing to relinquish low-value jobs in manufacturing and technology to the third world through outsourcing.
When this trend gathers further momentum in the coming years, one thing is sure – the current distribution of the US labor force, among high school diploma holders, associate degree holders, bachelor’s degree holders, master’s degree holders, professional degree holders, and doctorate holders, will be in for a major realignment, which will clearly be in favor of those having a master’s degree and above.
However, the increasing competition for regular graduate admissions, as well as the increasing financial burden when quitting work to enroll at a regular graduate school, has made college degree master online the way to go for many Americans aspiring for a master’s degree.
No wonder, the penetration of distance education is highest in graduate schools, compared with institutions offering predominantly associate, bachelor’s, professional, or doctoral degrees. In 2005, 44% of schools offering face-to-face master’s degree programs, had started offering them online too.
What It Involves:
College degree master online is about distance learning or online courses that lead to graduate degrees like Master of Arts (MA), Master of Science (MS), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Education (MEd), Master of Fine Arts (MFA), and many more specialized master’s degrees.
For most subjects, the duration of studies needed for a master’s degree ranges between 1 to 2 years. The normal prerequisite is a 4-year Bachelor’s degree, while in some subjects and some colleges, a few years of professional work too will be needed. For example, online MBA programs from almost all prestigious institutions will need work experience for enrolling.
Also, some graduate subjects are usually not available through distance learning. Examples are Juris Doctor (JD) and Doctor of Medicine (MD). Though they require a 4-year Bachelor’s degree as a prerequisite, they are considered first as professional degrees rather than master’s degrees. However, real master’s degrees in these subjects, like, LLM and MS (Medicine) might be available with a significant online component.
Good scores in standardized tests like GRE and GMAT might be necessary for admission at some of the more prestigious Universities. College degree master online will be demanding, as a typical program will be a mixture of course-based and research-based learning.
Why College Degree?
The nation enjoys a literacy rate of 99.9, which is also a first rank it shares with 20 other developed countries. However, among the US adult population, only 27% have received a bachelor’s degree or above. The rest of the adult population either holds a high school diploma, an associate degree, or haven’t completed their education.
Such a scenario was fine with an economy dominated by manufacturing and farming. However, as the nation continually moved up the value rung, a college degree became an absolute necessity. The value with which industry regards degree holders is evident from the fact that their average salary exceeds the national average by more than $10,000.
Why College Degree Master?
Today only 8.9% of the American student community go for a master’s degree. But America is again moving up the value rung through outsourcing – shifting from leadership in the technology sectors, to leadership in intellectual property, consultancy, and services.
Today, it won’t be an exaggeration to state that a typical American white-collar job demands a master’s degree. The only exceptions are first professional degrees like Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering, Doctor of Medicine (MD), Juris Doctor (JD), and other such professional degrees. Even in these fields, a master’s degree is more desirable today, than it was ten years back.
The most important factor favoring master’s degree holders is that many of tomorrow’s fastest growing occupations require a master’s degree. This makes a master’s degree the passport to high-growth careers.
These include physical therapists, occupational therapists, educational counselors, instructional coordinators, rehabilitation counselors, mental health counselors, operations managers, management analysts, financial managers, information system managers, and sales managers.
Interestingly, at least in some of these fastest growing occupations, a master’s degree has also become a prerequisite for professional licensing.
Master’s degree holders squarely beat bachelor’s degree holders in both earnings and employment rates. While they earn nearly $800 more per month than bachelor’s degree holders on an average, their unemployment rate is much better at 2.1, compared with the 2.6 among bachelor’s degree holders. Clearly, these two factors combine to provide a kind of insurance against unemployment.
Lastly, many academically bright people go for a master’s degree, since they plan to attain one day the terminal degree in their subject, a doctorate.
Why College Degree Master Online?
Due to factors like better salaries, entry to high-growth careers, and better protection against unemployment, there is no doubt a master’s degree is today most desirable. However, opting for a regular graduate school is not for everyone.
First of all, the avenues for attending regular graduate schools are rather limited. While USA has more than 4,000 accredited colleges offering bachelor’s or associate degrees, only less than 300 Universities offer master’s degrees. Clearly, the available seats in these institutions are limited, compared with the increasing demand, thereby taking the competition to get graduate admission to new levels.
To manage the situation, many institutions keep an arbitrary cutoff GPA, sometimes not taking into consideration even test scores like GRE or GMAT. Clearly, the way out from this tough situation is master’s degrees through distance education.
Secondly, the cost of attending regular graduate school is steadily increasing. Annual tuition will cost upwards of $15,000, while even modest boarding will set one back by at least $6000.
Add to this, the revenue loss from quitting one’s job, and it becomes clear that even stipends from being a research assistant or teaching assistant at the University, won’t be enough to meet the high cost-of-living of a regular graduate student. Again, the way out is a college degree master online.
Here, you keep your full time job, pay much less tuition fee, spend not an additional dollar on campus boarding, but still proceed to the much coveted master’s degree.
What to Expect From College Degree Master Online, in the Future?
As demand for college degree master online increases further, the deployment of distance education in graduate schools will increase further from the current level of approximately 50%. Almost every master’s degree will be available online soon.
When options and enrollments increase, costs for college degree master online will come down further. Also, it will be no surprise if college degree master online becomes the norm rather than the exception in graduate study, at least in some subjects.
Bandwidth getting faster and cheaper will result in course delivery through the Internet, especially via asynchronous video, which will become the delivery mode of choice for lectures.
Conclusion
College Degree Master Online solves many problems and provides many positives. It lowers unemployment risks, reduces graduate school expenses, provides admissions to a large percentage of contenders, equips one for high growth careers, and of course, helps maximize one’s earning potential.
This is why master’s degrees are the most widely deployed distance learning programs today, and why the situation will only get even better in the future with more options and more enrollments.
