You do not have to add a credit card, and there will always be an option to pay with your tied checking account (in fact paypal prefers that you do that because it saves them money (usually)). If you had a more specific question, like a website you found where there appears to be no way to fund with the associated checking account; a more specific answer could be given.

On a side note. I don't know why you don't have a credit card and if that means you cannot have a credit card, but I have to take this opportunity to say everyone should always fund paypal transactions with a credit card for their protection. Paypal has a notoriously horrible dispute resolution system (and a bad customer service department from what I've read). On the other side of the coin, your credit card is a regulated financial institution with mandated consumer protections. In other words if you are defrauded paypal can say "oh well sucks to be you" but your credit card company by law has procedures to follow and must refund your money and help you out.
