Contrary to most people’s opinions, home schooling is not just limited to primary school students. In fact, there are many home schooling courses available for college students as well both offline and online.
Home schooling has been gaining more popularity in recent years because parents wanted more control over their child’s education. Parents wanted to oversee what their children is learning and teach them the right way.
There are also afraid of peer influences from other students. They may pick up bad habits such as smoking, alcoholism, gambling and violence etc.
For higher level college education, there are several types of home schooling programs available. It depends on the type of education you prefer your child to undertake. Most home schooling college programs are quite flexible in that the program curriculum can be changed to suit the student rather than the other way around in traditional colleges.
One type is religion college home schooling. They have home schooling curriculum that have religious studies as part of their education.
Another type focus on the science while another focus on the arts. It can also be a combination of the above since college home schooling is quite flexible. You can cater your home schooling curriculum based on the interest of your child.
One thing all these college home schooling programs have in common is that they can be taught at the pace your child is comfortable with. Since each child learns differently and at different pace, the college home schooling program can be altered to suit each child’s learning progress.
There are also college home schooling programs offered in your local area. Some are theme based while others are focused on a particular subject. It will help if you can find yourself aligned with a home schooling group in your local community, if not you can do it online via the numerous homeschooling forums online.

Are there any loans available for college students that allow you to use some money towards living expenses?
I’m heading into my second year of college and I’ve never taken out any loans for school before. I currently live at home however my father (single parent) and I have never really gotten along and its becoming more strained. Since senior year of high school I’ve been saving money towards being able to afford books and things for school and also the hopes of moving out when I could. With things getting much harder at home I’m hoping to move out come next fall (2010). I do have some money saved however my program at school is demanding and I’m afraid that I won’t be able to work enough hours during the school quarters to meet my living expenses. My question is this: Is there any type of loan out there that will allow me to use money not only towards tuition and books, but also living expenses in general while I’m in school?
Federal Stafford loans will help cover room and board if you live on campus. You can talk to your school’s financial aid office for help with applying for one.

Generally you get a loan and many times you will have money left over that you can use how you please (might be as low as 200 and as high as 2000 depensd on your EFC) but you have to remeber most of the time you’ll have to pay that money back and with interest.

If you get a loan, it is up to you what you do with it.

Absolutely. That money goes directly to you in your mailbox. I have saved most of my loans and they are sitting in my savings account and aren’t touched unless I absolutely need them. I hate doing this, but to ease current finances, I’m going to pay off my car (it’s not much) so that will bring in more income. I can use it any way I choose. Just don’t go spending it on stuff you don’t absolutely need. And make sure you get to where you can pay it back!

I’m assuming you are living in the US.
Have you thought about applying for fasfa? I hope your relationship with your father isn’t too strain for him to give you a copy of his tax returns. Since you live with your dad you are considered a dependent and would have to put in his tax info. Unless you are older then 24. There are some cases where a student wouldn’t have to use their parents/ guardians info, but those people are usually living by themselves and have extreme reasons why they have no contact with their parents. If you move out you might be able to argue your case to the financial aid department in your school. I’m not sure about it though. There are certain forms you must fill. and I think you need letters from people as witnesses as to why your situation is bleak with them. I think those claims are only approved if the situation is really dire. Usually there will be left over money for a student to use as he/she please after everything has been paid to the school per semester. It would be mailed to you or direct deposited. I have heard of students borrowing the max to pay for rent, food, gas etc.
Seeing as you’ve been working for awhile, your bank might have a program that allows students to take loans for school or whatever at a lower interest rate. If you have a decent enough credit score you might be able to get a loan by yourself. I don’t know the laws in your state, but mine just recently change it so that students can’t get loans unless they have a certain credit score. Because we are high risk borrowers. Seeing as most students have no credit score usually they want a co-signer. And it sucks if you have parents who want nothing to do with your education. Good luck! There are tons of kids in your situation I feel your pain.
update: supposedly you can apply for fafsa w/o your parent info…but you wont be considered for grants only loans.
